Bump-up the 4th & the best Burgers ever

Yes, I did take these pictures with my iPhone.  I felt as if the cheesy-ness of the photos went with the complete tacky-ness of the Bumpit I have in my hair!   My friend and I decided that we had to have Bumpits in our life, so we ordered some from Hong Kong... We are totally in love with them.
Anyway, today is Independence Day! So happy 4th everyone.  Due to the tradition of bbqing, drinking beer and watching fireworks, I thought I would share my favorite burger recipe ever.  My mom and I made it up one year and are obsessed.  For those of you similar to me (or not) who don't like meat, the Portobello Mushroom Burger is the way to go!

The mushroom burgers are wonderfully simple.  Just grill some portobello mushrooms and melt some provolone cheese on them.  Meanwhile, make your favorite Pesto and lightly grill some whole-wheat buns.  When the Mushrooms are ready, put the Pesto and some sliced, grilled Red Peppers (you can buy these at the store or do it yourself) on the bun.  Voilà!  I would grill some corn too, to go alongside.

Happy 4th!

Basil & the Jardin

So many fun new things!  I started a Jardin ( French for 'garden') this year!  Soon I will have red, yellow & orange peppers, beets, beens, an assortment of herbs and lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, peas and many more yummy treats.  I am so excited because I essentially live off of fruits and vegetables and buying everything local or organic gets expensive!  I am also obsessed with basil and my old plant was looking a little weak, so I bought a new one!
I also have an iPhone now and I am loving it.  Finally I have entered the modern world.  I found an 'app' for this crazy cool camera (a hipstamatic).  It's completely horrible (and addicting) because it makes every picture look cool even if you have no photography skills what-so-ever (i.e. Me!).

Home on the Ranch

I am a very bad blogger and did not take that many photos from the road trip.  Here are a few though.  Some photos of the ranches around montana, a cool car, and a wedding cake of course!
There is also a photo of this months Vogue.  It was impossible to find an Elle or a Vogue anywhere during the trip and I needed one for the 9 hour car ride.
I finally wore the Acne dress with some lovely Jeffery Campbell shoes, but, alas...I literally had no time to take a picture of it!
Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Book Club

A a friend of mine let me borrow this book and it is wonderful.  In fact, I can't put it down.  If you are bored this summer, I would definitely pick up a copy of "The Savage Detectives" by Roberto Bolaño.
You can't see in the pictures, but I wore little brown Oxfords by Steve Madden with this ensemble.

Lines & Dots

This is kind of an odd combination but it works I think.  I love, love, love these shorts that I bought last year in France.  I often have trouble figuring out what to pair them with.
The Arts Festival is this weekend, which I was pretty excited for, but turns out I won't be attending.  I will be in Montana (which is equally exciting).  I will finally have the opportunity to wear the Acne dress I purchased in NYC.  I am definitely looking forward to that.

Casual Thursday

I wore this dress last in the winer, so I was happy to pull it out again in nice weather.  I found it on sale last year at Q Clothing downtown.  I have been on a mission to try to find more boutiques around the city, because I think they are more fun to shop at then big malls.  Last night I went to dinner in Park City (I haven't been up there forever) and it looked like there might be some fun window shopping to be had...

Simply Simplicity

This is the dress that I was so excited to find, here. I paired it with a belt to give it a little more shape, I like it with out a belt too though.

The pasta is my absolute favorite dish ever, which I thought I would share with you.  It is the best fresh pasts dish for summer.  I don't have a recipe, because I kind of just make it up as I go.

You will need:
7 small heirloom tomatoes
Lots of basil (to taste)
1 pound of mozzarella
Olive Oil (to taste)
7 to 14 Garlic Cloves (I like 14!)
Pasta
Pepper (to taste)

Chop up tomatoes, garlic, mozzarella, and basil (I like to rip the basil with my hands) in a large bowl.  Drizzle olive oil over the top.  Mix in some pepper. Let sit covered for about 2 hours.
After 2 hours, boil pasta and then mix it in with the tomato sauce.  Add fresh mozzarella and basil if desired.
Drink a glass of red wine along side and you are set!
Simple.

Biker Shorts

I love these little short-leggings more then anything.  I discovered them last year in New York and have been obsessed ever since.  They are perfect for summer because you can put them on under a dress, not feel too hot, and not show the world what color underwear you have on.  Simply brilliant.  I wore this dress last with a denim jacket, so I thought I would try something different and go for a light cardigan.
P.S. How do we feel about H&M coming to Fashion Place? I'm not so stoked...
